Original black calf with gilt-stamped titles, all edges gilt, 75 pp, with two tipped-in sepia tone photographic portraits; a very good copy; loosely enclosed is the original covering note, printed on black-bordered mourning stationery and reading: ‘Please accept the enclosed from Major William Baird. Belfast Telegraph, Belfast’. ‘Within this brochure for circulation amongst his more intimate friends are preserved selections from the many choice tributes inspired by the late Sir Robert Baird Managing Director of the Belfast Telegraph.’ Sir Robert Baird (1855-1934) was not only the proprietor of Ireland’s most influential newspaper, but also one of Ireland’s leading Freemasons, who served as Grand Treasurer of the Grand Lodge of Ireland. He was noted for his philanthropy and received a knighthood for his services to the Empire during World War One.
